Devizes Rugby Club kick off their pre season training on Thursday 7th July at 7pm up at the club training pitches. Devizes will be playing at Level 6 this coming season, following their title winning season in Southern Counties South last term. The Saddlebacks have an intriguing league as they face familiar foes Marlborough, Grove and Witney in addition to a couple of teams they have never faced such as Tottonians and Shipston on Stour. The 2nd XV will be playing at Level 8 and will be looking forward to going head to head against the likes of Calne, Sutton Benger, Minety and Pewsey Vale 1st XV's in addition to Chippenham, Marlborough and Swindon 2nd XV's.
With both sides playing at a higher level, Devizes RFC is, as ever, looking to recruit new players no matter ability, age or fitness level.
For the 2022/2023 season, Director of Rugby Joe Alford continues at the helm, supported by James Gaiger (Head Coach) and Ben Biss (Defence Coach). 1st XV Player of the Year and Devizes skipper Lewis Paget continues in his role as club captain.
Joe Alford said 'playing at a higher level for both sides is a significant challenge for this group of players; having said that, everything we challenged the group with last season, they stepped up to the challenge admirably. We're looking forward to testing ourselves at a higher level and are excited to go to new places on the road. We are looking for any players who want to play a higher level than they are currently playing at to join us in addition to any newcomers to the game. We are committed to improving your game and having both senior men's sides enjoy their rugby, playing the 'Devizes way'.'
In addition to this, the End of Season dinner was held on Friday 17th June with Bath, England and British & Iris Lions prop Gareth Chilcott speaking through some of his anecdotes and stories from his time playing. Awards were handed out at the end of the night with the following club members winning the various categories:
